Area Information

Greenville Sound, Landfall, Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, Topsail Island, and Historic Downtown Wilmington

GREENVILLE SOUND AREA

The Greenville Sound Area of Wilmington NC is a highly sought-after location for a coastal lifestyle.  It includes the waterfront communities between Bradley Creek and Hewletts Creek that border the Intracoastal Waterway. Greenville Sound is a perfect coastal destination if you desire to be close to the beach, boating access, and Wilmington’s finest stores and restaurants located at Mayfaire Towne Center, The Forum, Lumina Station, and Landfall.

Several of the waterfront communities in the Greenville Sound Area have their own private marina, boat slip facilities or a community boat ramp. Some waterfront homes have a private boatslip or a boatslip may be rented at a nearby commercial marina.  Some of the most popular waterfront communities in the Greenville Sound Area that offer boating access are:

  • Greenville Sound Gardens
  • Turtle Hall
  • Shandy Point
  • Towles Road
  • Ariel Cove
  • Rabbit Run
  • Cedar Island North
  • Westport
  • Shinn Point
  • Shinn Creek Estates
  • Quail Run
  • Cedar Landing

With access to the waterfront by boat, paradise awaits you! You will be able to enjoy Masonboro Island, a pristine uninhabited barrier island 8.4 miles long. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, the Intracoastal Waterway, Masonboro Inlet and Carolina Beach Inlet. Masonboro Island is a popular destination, with seemingly endless beaches. Other popular destinations for boaters are nearby Figure Eight Island, Wrightsville Beach, Topsail Island, Carolina Beach, and Lea-Hutaff Island. You can also take your boat to dine at several waterfront restaurants.

Kayaking is a great way to explore many of the undeveloped barrier islands and the thousands of acres of tidal marshes and creeks. You'll also find an abundance of birds and other creatures that live in a coastal habitat: blue heron, ospreys, loggerheads, green turtles, terns, cranes, blue crabs, and fiddler crabs, to name just a few.

Several of the waterfront communities in the Greenville Sound Area are connected via walkways, easements and bridges over the marsh. Taking a walk, riding your bike or going for a run in this coastal setting over the marshes is hard to match and a great way to meet your neighbors.

Does this sound like the type of place that you would like to call home? If so, allow me to help you find a home here that suits your needs. I am a resident of the Greenville Sound Area and an expert on the real estate market here. I would love to show you my community and a taste of the coastal lifestyle!

LANDFALL

Landfall is one of the premier golf-course communities in North Carolina. Set among the live oaks, hardwoods and tall pines that once comprised the hunting preserve of Mr. Pembroke Jones at the turn of the 20th century, it is now a gated community of over 2000 acres and home to over a thousand families. Landfall offers many amenities that include 24/7 manned security, conservation areas, walking trails, playgrounds, soccer fields, lakes and waterfront picnic areas.

A separate membership in the Country Club of Landfall will allow you to enjoy 45 holes of golf on courses designed by Pete Dye and Jack Nicklaus; 12 tennis courts (2 of them grass courts); an olympic size swimming pool; a fitness center, and two clubhouses for dining and other cultural activities.

Landfall is a waterfront community ideally situated just a mile from Wrightsville Beach and bordered by the Intracoastal Waterway and Howes Creek. Landfall is close to  some of the best shopping in Wilmington: Mayfaire Towne Center, the Landfall Shopping Center, The Forum, and Lumina Station.

If you desire to purchase a home or land in Landfall, use my expert knowledge of the Landfall real estate market to find and negotiate the best deal for you.  Landfall was a place that I called ‘home’ for nine years and I have a wealth of experience in selling  homes and land in Landfall on behalf of my buyer and seller clients.

LOCAL BEACHES

Wrightsville Beach

Wrightsville Beach, NC is famed for its white sandy beaches, mild climate and sparkling blue water. Wrightsville Beach is a thriving barrier island that attracts visitors and permanent residents alike and has a business district with stores and restaurants that remain open year-round. Whether you are looking for a vacation home, investment/rental property, or a full-time residence, you'll love the relaxing, casual atmosphere you’ll find at Wrightsville Beach. Residents and visitors can take advantage of the state-operated public boat ramp and enjoy Wrightsville Beach Park. The park includes a wetland conservation area, playground, tennis courts, soccer fields and a 2 1/2 mile "Loop" for running and walking. Wrightsville Beach is close to some of the best dining, shopping and golf facilities that Wilmington has to offer.

Figure Eight Island

Figure Eight Island, NC is a private beach community accessible by car across a gated swing-bridge. Like its neighbor, Wrightsville Beach, it is a barrier island, with the Atlantic Ocean to the East and the Intracoastal Waterway to the West. It is 5 miles long, with pristine sandy beaches, beautiful marshes, deep water canals, and tidal flats at the north end that attract many boaters who anchor to enjoy the beach and ocean during the warmer months. With no business district of any kind it is a true sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of daily life yet it is still close to the upscale stores, restaurants and golf courses to be found on the mainland across the Figure Eight Island bridge. Figure Eight Island is home to some of the most impressive waterfront estates on the North Carolina coast. Allow me to show you what Figure Eight Island has to offer.

Bald Head Island

Bald head Island, NC is an unspoiled island 4 miles off the North Carolina coast accessible by a passenger ferry from Southport NC or private boat. No gas-powered passenger vehicles are allowed on the island so golf-carts and bicycles are the popular mode of transport. Bald Head Island has thousands of acres of conservation area and is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and Cape Fear River with over 14 miles of sandy beaches. Bald Head Island also offers a marina and a private club with a championship golf course, tennis, and dining facilities. The homes here offer a variety of topography and views, including ocean, marshes, tidal flats, maritime forest and golf views. For those looking for a true get-away Bald Head Island is ideal.

Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Fort Fisher

Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Fort Fisher are three beach communities located on one of the largest barrier islands in the Cape Fear area, sometimes referred to as "Pleasure Island." Each town has its own separate identity but they are similar in that they offer a laid-back beach lifestyle and are just 15 to 20 miles from the heart of Wilmington, NC.  These communities are accessible from the mainland by a short drive over Snows Cut Bridge.

Carolina Beach has many types of beach properties to choose from.  They include oceanfront and second row condos, canal front homes, single family homes, duplexes and town homes. Carolina Beach has a busy marina for charter-boat fishing excursions and a business district that includes a boardwalk with tourist attractions and retail stores. The Carolina Beach State Park has nature trails, picnic areas, a public marina and it is home to the famous Venus Fly Trap, a native plant that can be found growing in the wild.

Its immediate neighbor is Kure Beach, another family-oriented beach town. Kure Beach has a small business center offering restaurants and specialty stores and is anchored by the 711 foot long Kure Beach Fishing Pier.

At the tip of Pleasure Island is Fort Fisher, a community of homes set along the ocean front and nestled in its maritime forest. The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher and the civil war site are huge attractions that residents can enjoy year-round. If you are looking for a nostalgic beach community to retire to or a weekend getaway that is still affordable then these communities may be the right locale for you.

Topsail Island

Topsail Island NC is another coastal barrier island accessible by two bridges from the mainland. It is approximately 26 miles long and just 30 minutes from Wilmington NC. Topsail Island has three beach communities consisting of Topsail Beach, Surf City and North Topsail Beach. Most of Topsail Island’s restaurants, stores and businesses are located in Surf City, the center of the island. Topsail Island is a popular destination for retirees who wish to enjoy a beach retreat and golfing with many golf courses nearby on the mainland. Topsail Island’s population swells in the summer months as it has become a desirable destination for vacationers and people owning second homes.

HISTORIC DOWNTOWN WILMINGTON

Wilmington NC was incorporated in 1740 and its location on The Cape Fear River caused it to become a thriving port city with the largest cotton exchange in the world. Stately mansions with river views were built on Front Street for the prominent industrialists of that era. Today, Wilmington is a city that has retained its historical charm of yesteryear.  Wilmington has a nationally recognized historic district containing thousands of historic homes that have been preserved and updated. Cobble-stoned streets lined with stately live oaks draped in Spanish moss are commonplace. Wilmington has a thriving night life. There are many fine stores, restaurants and nightclubs that attract tourists and residents alike and the River Walk pedestrian area fronting the Cape Fear River is a popular destination for those who wish to dine on the river front or catch the sunset. If you are interested in purchasing investment property, downtown Wilmington is a place where you can still find some "fixer uppers" and contribute some "sweat equity" and there is also an abundance of multifamily properties if you are looking for properties with rental income. Having personally purchased, fixed up and rented out numerous investment properties in Wilmington’s Historic District over the last few years I have the expertise to steer you in the right direction if this is what you are looking for.
